Cape Verde Resort Goes Green

For hotels and commercial & industrial (C&I) clients across Africa, power reliability is no longer optional; it is the absolute backbone of operations. Grid instability leads to costly outages, while reliance on diesel generators drains profits and pollutes the environment. The Ohms Box fundamentally changes this equation.

Off-Grid Europe delivered a pioneering energy solution for one of Cape Verde's hotel resorts. The challenge was clear: rising diesel costs, dependence on noisy generators, and the need for a sustainable, reliable power supply that would not compromise guest comfort.

The Ohms Box: Intelligent Energy Management

Built in Germany, the Ohms Box is an advanced system designed to seamlessly manage energy from multiple sources: solar, the grid, and traditional generators. An integrated Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) guarantees a seamless, uninterrupted electricity supply by switching between sources instantly and intelligently.

This intelligent management means:

  • Zero Downtime: Continuous operations without interruption.

  • No Manual Intervention: Automated system handles all source switching.

  • Uncompromised Experience: Ensures a consistently high standard for guest or customer experience.

Beyond Reliability: Driving Savings and Sustainability

The benefits of the Ohms Box extend far beyond mere reliability. It strategically positions solar energy as the primary driver of savings, significantly reducing reliance on expensive diesel fuel and lowering grid electricity costs.

Flagship Project: Hotel in Cape Verde

Project Overview:

In 2025, a landmark project was completed for a hotel in Cape Verde, showcasing the transformative power of the Ohms Box. This installation features a 1.6 MWh Ohms Box combined with a 1.2 MWp solar PV system. This setup provides continuous operation, powered primarily by clean solar energy, with the grid and existing generators acting as backup.

8 Ohms Boxes installed for a hotel in Cape Verde.

Key Impacts & Benefits:

This innovative solution is projected to deliver substantial environmental and financial benefits:

  • Annual CO₂ Offset: 750 tons

  • Annual Energy Cost Reduction: €450,000
